Weed Management Practices to Improve Establishment of Selected Lignocellulosic Crops

نویسندگان

چکیده

Lignocellulosic biomass is one of the dominant renewable energy resources suited for production sustainable biofuels and other purposes. This study was focused on weed management strategies that can improve establishment six lignocellulosic crops. The studied crops included: giant miscanthus, switchgrass, reed, cardoon, sweet sorghum, kenaf. Delayed planting, increased planting densities, mulching techniques suppress weeds in miscanthus. Weed competition detrimental switchgrass establishment. Seedbed preparation cultivar selection determine its ability to compete with weeds. Giant reed unlikely get outcompeted by weeds, any control operation required only first growing season. Competitive cultivars seeding rates maximize competitiveness cardoon against Several cultural practices be used non-chemical sorghum For all crops, pre-emergence herbicides applied. available safe post-emergence are limited. Mechanical during crucial growth stages provide solutions kenaf, perennial grasses. Further research develop effective strategies, emphasis practices, these prominent

Integrating Weed Management Practices to Enhance Productivity of Grazed Pastures

As animal grazing has intensified within Kentucky and the surrounding region problematic weeds such as tall ironweed, spiny amaranth, horsenettle, buttercup, common cocklebur, and thistles have been increasing. These weeds become prominent in pastures because they have spines, thorns, or are unpalatable to animals. Animals selectively graze and avoid these weedy plants and with intensive grazin...
